In July 2010, there were more than 24,000 restaurants in New York City when the Board of Health voted to rate and publicly display grade letters in the windows of every food establishment in NYC. As a tamed clean-freak, I am comforted in knowing that there are more people making rounds to monitor the cleanliness of the kitchens from whence our food is prepared. However, I haven’t noticed any letter Cs — only “Grade Pending”s — and I wonder if it makes a difference at all.
