a stomach made of stone

Hello Beautiful Ones,

My recent interview with Brian, the passionate vegan, spurred some interests in the lifestyle. A good thing. However, a few people have made comments offline about their inability to stop eating meat and other non-vegan food items such as cheese and ice cream. After being a vegan for seven years, I totally get it. My belief is that not every one should lead a vegan lifestyle. Although, I can’t ignore the fact that

#foodpoisoning

Beautiful people, if you are eating and your head, heart or gut says to you, this tastes funny, weird, or disgusting, put the fork down immediately. Advice I should have adhered to last Sunday evening. I’m not going to mention names or places but I’m super sure that I got food poisoning from a mushroom, green bean dish that made my scalp tingle and my taste buds run for cover. At first bite, I was turned

sucker

Friday night: On the way to see a film, a friend and I passed by the Nolita neighborhood for snacks. While waiting for the food, I sauntered over to the sweets section and picked up a package containing one peanut butter cookie. The name of the brand is called This Chick Bakes. This particular cookie was gluten-free. I asked the owner if she liked their cookies seeing that she was “gluten-intolerant.” (She had mentioned this earlier

blame it on bacon

My appetite has been insatiable. I’ve been eating everything including the most incredible avocado BLT sandwich for lunch nearly two weeks ago. Yes people! I ate pork bacon and relished every bite.  But then I had a check-up Friday afternoon and my blood pressure was pretty elevated. We could blame it on the bacon but let’s not. It was as if somebody slapped me in the face. I left the doctor’s office feeling certain the results

this little piggy

by KalaLea on October 30, 2011 • Posted in News The Act of Eating

Cool weather combined with stress brings out the animal in me. This week I’ve eaten enough to satisfy 2 grown hardworking men! I kid you not. This little piggy needs to take it easy. If you haven’t noticed, a revolution or awareness is brewing throughout the world. Need I say the word, OCCUPY. Makes me want to chew on something. I suppose my spirit is a bit anxious. My mind is running like mad, I constantly

give the gift of kale

by KalaLea on October 8, 2011 • Posted in Food Trends News The Act of Eating

This afternoon, my dear friend sent me a text message. He had left a cookie on the kitchen counter and wanted me to have it. I was working from home  so I could immediately go to the kitchen to see what kind of cookie it was. Second to my love of pizza, is my adoration for soft, delicious cookies — preferably chocolate chip. I vaguely remembered seeing the cookie the first time I went into the

  • Stone Town, Zanzibar is a beautiful hectic island with loads of character and spice but I'll admit it, the food at the night market gets only one star for hustle and charm. The food is far from fresh. However, the location is GORGEOUS BUT it's basically for tourists. Now I know! Feel free to share your local restaurant recommendations? #stonetown #zanzibar #nightmarket #africa #wdiet #winterindar

  • First time drinking baobab juice from the Baobab tree. It's a bit grainy with a tinge of tart and sweetness. The mighty Baobab tree can grow up to 90 feet tall for approximately 500 years. The powder from the fruit is rich in vitamin C, high in protein, potassium, calcium and magnesium. The fiber helps maintain healthy bacteria in the gut too and can tackle dysentery. #daressalaam #baobab #healthybody #healthyliving #healthyeating #africa #healingfoods
  • Yesterday after a swim in the Indian Ocean, I fell fast asleep right here. I could feel the earth laying hands on me.
