Chocolove Almond & Sea Salt bar

by KalaLea on November 6, 2011 • Posted in Kala's Favorites

I’ve been sitting at my desk trying to find one word to describe this incredible chocolate bar. HEAVENLY comes to mind. SINFULLY GOOD but that’s two words. BELEZA! Brazilian Portuguese for TOTALLY COOL & AMAZING. Yeah, that’s it.

Timothy Moley, Chocolove founder has eaten two chocolate bars every day for the last ten years. He must be a special guy because his Colorado-based company has excellent customer service. A real person responded to my email, leaving

Harmless Harvest Raw Coconut Water

by KalaLea on October 17, 2011 • Posted in Kala's Favorites

It’s embarrassing to admit that I haven’t really worked out for over 5 months now. Yes, I ride my bike super frequently and walk just as every other crazy New Yorker, but I haven’t made any effort to exercise since long before the raw food cleanse. This is going to change this week and my main concern is rehydration.

That’s where Harmless Harvest 100% raw & organic coconut water comes in. I can’t take credit for

eat lots of kale

by KalaLea on October 8, 2011 • Posted in Kala's Favorites

One of the goals of Why Did I Eat That? is to:
MAKE KALE A HOUSEHOLD NAME.

Kale is in a league of its own. A mega-super star among vegetables, sort of like Prince, Madonna, Bob Dylan, Stevie Wonder, the Beatles, Aretha Franklin & Michael Jackson. Like major! If I had to pick one veggie to grow, I would choose kale. My love of kale began in 2003. It wasn’t love at first sight, more

giving thanks to food workers

Remember the school field trips to your nearby farm? Live demonstrations of farmers milking cows. Not sure if these outings are hosted by public schools anymore but many moons ago, when I was a little wee lady, a few students in my elementary class were selected to milk a cow. I can’t recall if I volunteered or not but I didn’t have the opportunity to milk then, and still don’t know how. Fast forward to adulthood.

Eat with JOYFUL awareness

by KalaLea on September 24, 2011 • Posted in Kala's Favorites The Act of Eating

Life should be pleasurable — without the feeling of guilt and stress. My recommendation to those of you who worry about being fat or becoming overweight. DON”T FRET OH BEAUTIFUL ONE! Stress and worry can cause over eating. Over eating will result in weight gain. Worrying about weight gain can keep the weight on. Round and round. Stress. Eat. Worry. Eat some more. We all know when we’ve gone overboard. If you’re eating with joyful awareness,

Seaweed

by KalaLea on September 10, 2011 • Posted in Kala's Favorites

We are water, more specifically, we are of the ocean. Mysterious, abundant, complex, interconnected, and full of life. That’s why eating seaweed makes sense to me. The ocean is loaded with minerals such as, potassium, iron, calcium, iodine and magnesium; therefore, sea veggies are concentrated with the same. Eat seaweed to maintain thyroid health, aid in digestion, regulate hormones, and detox from various pollutants and harmful metals.

Over 9,000 species of seaweed have been recorded worldwide

  • I used to have fish 🐟 and I love snorkeling. One of my next goals is to get a scuba diving license or certificate. The aquarium at Cape Town's V&A Waterfront was worth the visit. And I loved seeing the school children on tours react to the info shared about each beautiful creature. Learned so much! #southafrica #capetown #fish #aquarium #nemo #snorkeling #scubadiving

  • My tastebuds were seduced last night at an African restaurant along the Cape Town waterfront called Gold. After a 14 course meal, my belly cried, PLEASE NO MORE! From the first course, Zanzibar soup to the final dessert, Moroccan orange and walnut served with sweet orange and ground spice sauce, every dish was delish. The photos don't do the experience justice. Give thanks! #africa #southafrica #capetown #goldrestaurant #touristy #
