the skin i live in

Vanity is a greedy monster. It will drive you to spend money you don’t have in order to look or feel good. I just received $89 worth of natural products because my eczema is back. In 2014, less than one year after returning to New York from Brazil I began to develop small rashes on the outsides of my arms, near my armpits and my shins. My brother’s partner is a dermatologist so I asked her

life of spice

by KalaLea on February 14, 2017 • Posted in News

There was a time when spices were one of the most valuable and traded commodities in the world. As far back as 3500 B.C. Egyptians used multiple spices when preparing fish, game or grains. Spices were also used for healing various ailments and illnesses. For example the paste of coriander seeds was massaged into stiff or painful limbs to provide relief. I’ve also read that coriander was considered an aphrodisiac. Oh la la. ♥

Greetings Folks!

First, VERY sorry about sending 2 messages today.  Also, there was problem with last week’s post link so if you had trouble accessing it, it can be found here: http://wdiet.net/2017/01/words-are-powerful

How are you feeling? I mean it, stop for a second and check in with yourself. How are you feeling at this very moment? Rested, sleepy, motivated, apathetic, hopeful, happy, full, lonesome, bloated, empty, grateful, in pain, pain-free …?

Every morning I ask my

herpes and tattoos

by KalaLea on October 1, 2014 • Posted in News

When I was fifteen or so, one of my closest friends got crabs (pubic lice) by wearing the jeans of another one of our friends. I wasn’t familiar with crabs so I asked my friend to describe what it looked and felt like while doing my best to sound normal. She said she could see thousands of tiny insects in her panties and it really itched. Needless to say, she was beyond upset. This morning I

Chia Seed Pudding

by KalaLea on September 13, 2014 • Posted in News

On Saturday, September 13, 2014, I participated in GrowNYC’s Fresh Food Box Program by offering a cooking demo while serving chia seed pudding with stewed apples and plums. Although the weather was grey, we had a great day. It’s an awesome program that unlike Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), you do not need to commit for an entire season. You can order on a weekly basis. The cost of one box is $10.00 and organic eggs are

I'm a true hot sauce, chili pepper, piri piri, cayenne pepper, spicy food LOVER 💜🌶 Even tho an acupuncturist suggested I chill with the hot peppers during summertime. But October 1st is technically fall so ... I'm going. #bbg #chilipepperfestival2017 #hotsauce #spicyfood

  • Mural painting at Malaika Beach Club ... a home away from home indeed. In 2001 while in Mali, West Africa, I traveled via pick-up truck nearly 21 hours to Djenne, the home of one of the oldest mosques. I would have continued on to Timbuktu but many foreigners had warned that the city was barren and unsafe. Today I wonder if those warnings came from a truthful or fear place...perhaps both. But my gut told me to stay in Djenne so that's what I did. Whenever I see any reference to this ancient capital, I reflect on that first trip to the Motherland alone. One of my most challenging yet enlightening trips...After a lengthy 2nd visit to East and South Africa, I'm back in NYC and feeling so grateful for the ability to travel, for new friends, for nature's healing powers and for love ❤️ and laughter. Feeling recharged. Looking forward to my next visit to Africa - Hugs and #happywhereamiwednesday #timbuktu #happywednesday #art #malaikabeachclub #mural #muralart #gratitude #africa #tanzania #kigamboni #nature #travel #eastafrica

The ambiance was delightfully cozy...we were the first customers of the night. Four of us in total. The food hit the spot ... lentil wot (stew), chickpeas, mushrooms, lamb...yum yum! And I had a few sips of honey wine too. Def coming back next trip! #africa #eastafrica #tanzania #addisindar #ethiopian #daressalaam #winterindar #wdiet #lentils #lamb #chickpeas #ethiopia
